2023 in Review - HQS' Successes and Milestones

As the year ends, we take this opportunity to reflect on a year filled with events and successes and provide a glimpse into exciting developments for the coming year. The year began for us with a move to a larger, modern office building, where we found it easy to settle in - off to a good start to a successful year:

Product Launches of Innovative HQS Software Tools:

Our teams have worked diligently to develop pioneering quantum technology for the industry, and we are pleased to have launched at the beginning of this year several innovative Software Tools for material simulation and analysis on the quantum level:

  • HQS Noise App: Simulation of open quantum systems on NISQ devices
Simulate diverse open quantum systems on NISQ devices and explore the environment (bath) and the effects on your system using the HQS Noise App.

  • HQS Spin Mapper: Mapping of Solid-State Problems and Molecules onto Spin System
Leveraging spin-based models to study solid-state problems and molecules and applying these models to resonators for quantum-related applications.

  • Raquet: Factorization Solver
Tool for simplifying the quantum description of spins when they are distant from each other and subject to noise, allowing for more efficient and accurate calculations.

  • Qoqo for Braket: Empowering Quantum Circuit Execution on Amazon Braket.
This innovative interface seamlessly converts quantum circuits of the HQS Quantum Computing toolkit QOQO to Amazon Braket circuits, enabling their execution on QPUs and simulators available on Amazon Braket.

Successful Projects and Partnerships:

During the year we completed and launched several ground-breaking projects that are important to the overall quantum progress of the industry. For these projects, we have adapted some HQS tools to the needs of the research institutes or companies, combined them, and developed a complete software workflow to make the software tools as easy to use as possible.

  • Commissioned by BASF: HQS has been commissioned by BASF to develop use cases of chemistry and materials simulation on quantum computers for the emerging QuCUN platform.

  • LRZ is using HQS Software: Leibniz Supercomputing Centre (LRZ) works with HQS Software Application HQS Noise App within the BMBF-funded project “Quantum Computing demonstration for ExaScale-HPC” (Q-Exa).

  • SEEQC System Red Successfully runs HQS Quantum Simulations Algorithm: SEEQC has successfully run an algorithm on its SEEQC System Red, the company’s full-stack quantum computing system, that shows great potential to achieve commercially useful quantum advantage in the near term.

  • HQS supplies simulation software to DLR Institute: HQS delivered a specialized quantum simulation software package to the DLR Institute: During a public tender procedure within the DLR Quantum Computing Initiative, HQS Quantum Simulations was awarded several projects within the application projects ALQU (Algorithms for Quantum Computer Development in Hardware/Software-Codesign) and BASIQ (Battery materials simulation using quantum computers) this year.

  • Enabling Quantum Simulations for Chemical Processes in QC-4-BW: In support of Fraunhofer IAF and ICT, HQS has developed a specialized configuration for simulating chemical processes within the quantum computing initiative QC-4-BW. This tailored setup allows specific portions of the simulations to be offloaded to a quantum processor.

  • Synergistic Endeavors of AutoQML and HQS: The primary goal of the collaboration between HQS and AutoQML was the creation of a robust library designed to autonomously transpile quantum machine learning circuits and intelligently allocate each circuit's qubits to an appropriate quantum backend.

Significant Trade Shows and Events:

This year, we participated in various industry events, including the APS March Meeting in Las Vegas, ISC in Hamburg, the Quantum Effects in Stuttgart, and the SC 23 in Denver. We are proud to have garnered such significant interest in our offering and are pleased to have fortified certain partnerships within the Qsolid project and with IQM Germany.

One of the major highlights for us this year was the HQS Workshop held in November. We extended invitations to numerous customers and interested parties for a three-day workshop featuring hands-on exercises, providing a comprehensive introduction to our software. We were thrilled with both the attendance and the positive feedback received.

News from the HR Department:

The achievements mentioned above wouldn't have been possible without the dedicated efforts of our talented staff. And we are pleased to welcome some new team members to HQS this year: Dr. Dmitry Golubev (Research Stack), Divyanshu Gupta (Quantum Computing Stack), Jelena Muselin (Business Development Assistant), Rolando Reiner (Quantum Computing Stack), Artur Vazigin (Infrastructure Stack), and Dr. Alexander Zech (Ab-Initio Chemistry Stack).

We are also proud to have been awarded the “Employer of the Future” title by the German Innovation Institute for Sustainability and Digitalization. HQS impressed the institute with a multi-stage testing process that assesses companies on innovation, digitalization, modern working conditions, and leadership strategies.

Fresh Capital and a New Member of the Board:

Marking a pivotal moment, Trumpf Venture II GmbH, the corporate venture capital arm of the TRUMPF Group, has entered as a significant investor with a one-million-euro contribution to HQS Quantum Simulation HQS Quantum Simulations had already closed on a Series A financing round last year. Michael Bolle has also been part of the Advisory Board since then, he is primarily dedicated in his new role to the technological development of HQS Quantum Simulations’ software.

Outlook for 2024: New Challenges and Exciting Perspectives

2024 Product Launch Preview: We offer you a sneak peek at exciting new products set to launch next year: We will continue to explore machine learning in quantum simulation in the future, but one of the biggest milestones we are aiming for in 2024 is the launch of the HQSpectrum tool. This will revolutionize laboratory work, promising detailed analysis at the quantum level and detailed provision of NMR spectra.

Events & Trade Shows in 2024: In the coming year, we plan to participate in important trade shows to present the latest industry trends and expand our network further. See you at the ISC in Hamburg and the SC24 in Atlanta. (more information about our events and fairs will follow soon)
We are also planning another HQS Workshop next year in November, which we will be happy to inform you about in the summer.

In conclusion, we would like to express our gratitude for your ongoing support. We appreciate the trust you place in our products services and research and look forward to achieving new milestones together in the coming year.

Merry X-Mas & Happy New Year 2024
